Musk certainly boasts a rich history, originally being a fragrance exclusive to royalty. It made headway as far back as the 6th century, when the elite of the Arab and Byzantine empires sported the familiar aroma as an exotic perfume. Many mosques were built with musk oil in the walls, releasing the zesty aroma when the building was warmed by the sun. Originally, this highly demanded ingredient was derived from the musk gland of male adult musk deer, native to northern Europe, the Middle East and northern Asia. These deer naturally secrete this spicy aroma, packed with pheromones, to attract mates—which is perhaps why the scent is so closely associated with sensuality! Unfortunately, due to centuries' worth of constant high demand for musk oil, these deer have seen a dramatic decline in population and are now considered an endangered species. Because of this, today most sources of musk oil - as our White Musk Aroma Oil - come from plants.
Did you know that our oils are not only great for diffusing, but also for making candles, soaps and air fresheners?
